BEAUTY / SIGNATURE FRAGRANCE

For my current university project, we have been researching into the art of perfumery and how it is marketed and branded. During one of my research trips into a department store I spotted CK2, the new genderless perfume from Calvin Klein.

Upon talking to a sales associate; their marketing and choice of perfume ingredients* felt so fresh – and has definitely became inspiration for creating our own scent brand in university.

* wasabi, wet cobblestones, violet leaf, incense, vetiver and sandalwood

WEARING / SLOUCHY KNITS

As spring approaches, theres something so lovely about not having to pile as many layers on. I find thin knits perfect for the transition between seasons, especially when worn with an overcoat. These knits from Zara provide the perfect balance between warmth, comfort and style.

WEARING / VINYL HEELS

While casually browsing Zara.com this morning, I came across the most perfect heels from their SS16 collection. White, vinyl and pointed; everything I could want in a pair of heels and at £29.99 these are an absolute steal! They also remind me of the Gianvito Rossi heels worn by InTheFrow, which I have been dying over for months – but for a fraction of the price.

COLLECTION / LOUIS VUITTON

Will 2016 be the year of Louis Vuitton? Well, by judging how their year has gone only 28 days in, I think it may well be. With campaigns that have gone viral and ones that have pushed sexist boundaries, and they just keep getting better and better.

Their most recent collection for menswear fall 2016 was inspired by Paris, with Art Deco designs, scribbly Jean Cocteau–esque drawings, a pile of Vuitton monogram trunks and a chiffon drape hanging from the ceiling- enough to make anyone excited!

NOVELTY / NEW RAF SIMONS

The fashion world went into a state of panic when Raf Simons announced his departure from Dior back in October. The designer felt as though he needed to ‘focus on other interests…including my own brand’ and aren’t we grateful for it? This gorgeous new campaign for SS16 is exactly what we needed to prove the decision was in his best interest. The campaign features Luca Lemaire, who has previously done work for Simons before, along side another model who’s identity is masked.

PLACES / NEW YORK

With my university course, we recently visited New York city. I had not previously visited anywhere outside of Europe so it was so interesting to see the fashion culture of another continent. One thing I found particularly amazing was the architecture. Not only seeing it above ground level from the Empire State and the Rockefeller, but just the mix between old and new, historic and modern.

NOVELTY / TONAL DRESSING

As we move into the new year, theres an arising trend that is popular with bloggers and celebrity street style that I hope becomes more of a macro trend this year rather than a fad left in 2015. Tonal dressing.

Personally, I think there is something so aesthetically pleasing about outfits made up of similar colours, whether it be neutrals such as grey, camel or white, or something more outrageous like red – as seen on Solange Knowles at the Carven fall/winter 2015 show at Paris fashion week.

BEAUTY / STRIPPED BACK

Am I the only person tired of seeing contouring everywhere? Darker and lighter toned foundations, creams, powders used to create a more ‘defined’ facial structure that just seems too much of a hassle and takes way too long. Personally, I just find it dated and uninteresting.

One arising trend I do find much more interesting, fresh and modern is the neutral make-up look. Light coverage foundation, neutral eye shadow shades, pink toned lipstick – just enough to enhance your features. And this is definitely a trend I have been embracing recently.

One product that is the soul of this look is my Kiehl’s BB cream. I absolutely love this stuff – it feels like moisturiser during application and sits weightlessly on your skin. It’s also enriched with vitamin C to help correct skin irregularities, making it perfect for everyday use as well as nighttime wear.

WEARING / STREET STYLE

For our current university project, we had to pick a product category to research into for autumn/winter 2015 trends. My group and I decided that denim was of particular interest to us and felt as though current denim trends were interesting enough to research about.

Firstly, we had to complete secondary research using WGSN and magazines to source ideas for what was predicted to be on trend. We then had to complete retail research in which we looked at how the trends had been developed into garments for consumers to purchase. After this, we then had to complete street style research to determine whether consumers are buying into these trends and how they’re styling the garments together.

My friend Dan kindly put together an outfit based around one of the current denim trends for me to shoot today, biker jeans.

NOVELTY / DANIELA BARROS

collage-16collage-17

Since beginning my Fashion communication degree at Nottingham Trent University I have really enjoyed expanding my thinking and developing my knowledge regarding the fashion industry. One of the things I have enjoyed the most is discovering new designers and artists during research for projects, and noticing how my thinking towards fashion and media has shifted from a consumer point of view to a professional point of view.

During a recent project regarding colour, I did some research into designers who have used my chosen colour within their recent collections for inspiration for my project. During this research, I discovered many designers who I have not previously heard of, but fell in love with their work automatically, Daniela Barros being one of those.

I just love the colour palettes she chooses for her collections along with the structured shapes of her garments, which I just think ties the minimal simplistic theme together perfectly. To view the whole collection click here.
